The Dante Group were recently invited to provide a guest lecture to students at the Discovery School in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The Discovery School is a 14-19 specialist STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) School. It is situated in the heart of Newcastle city centre and attracts students from across the region that choose to study a curriculum of STEM subjects.
Dante were asked to deliver a lecture to ‘A’ level Engineering students, describing the process of a project, and the role of the engineer.
Discovery Schools Vice Principal Lyle Nicholson said ‘It is important that we introduce our students to real world engineers to give validity to the subjects we teach and deepen the student’s knowledge of as many sectors within engineering as possible. We are passionate about promoting engineering in our region in the hope that one day companies like Dante will benefit from a well prepared, well educated, and well informed workforce. The Dante Group has been very generous in their support of us.’
Dante Director, Darren Devine, delivered the lecture and said ‘It was a pleasure to share our experience and provide information to some of the future engineering talent of the region. The Discovery School is a fantastic learning environment and the pupils were very interested in how an engineer can influence and mould the project process from the initial design stages through to completion and handover. Their input was also fascinating and they had some well thought out and salient questions at the end of the lecture. You never know, we may just have helped discover the next generations George Stephenson!’
